Twelve years ago, I was in a bad way.  In a few short months, I went from leading what I thought was a normal existence, with a wife and two kids, and a nice house in the suburbs to a living nightmare.

In those three months, my wife left me, I lost my job, developed a drinking problem, had my house repossessed and shortly afterwards filed for Personal Bankruptcy. Thankfully I got through the process and sorted myself out, but I certainly did it the “hard way”.  If I knew then what I know now I could have saved myself a lot of pain and heartache!

Apart from anything else, the feeling of helplessness was the worst thing, not knowing I could make a simple phone call to the bank and ask for some time to catchup my payments, or understanding there are alternatives to Bankruptcy.
